You are biding on a lot of paper documents from a Union soldier during the American Civil War. All documents are in nice condition. His name was George J. "Solomon" Foster, who was born in Crawford County, Ohio on June 21, 1842. 30, 1862 in Company A of the 1st Michigan Engineers and Mechanics Regiment.

He was promoted to sergeant on Jan. 10, 1865 and was discharged on June 6, 1865. He survived the Civil War, but died during a gruesome farming accident. On July 6, 1901, While he was engaged in pitching hay onto a wagon, the pitchfork in the hands of the man on the load to whom he was pitching, accidentally lost his hold on the fork, falling struck the deceased.

The tine striking him right under the left eye and in tilting over driving the point up into the brain. The documents include: PROMOTION On January 10, 1865, Foster was promoted to sergeant in the 1st Michigan regiment of Engineer and Mechanics. It measures 15.5 by 10 inches and is folded in fours.

It is signed by commanding officer Caleb A. Ensign, 1st Lieutenant and Colonel John B. DISCHARGE On June 6, 1865, Foster was discharged of captain John W.

Williamson's Company A, 1st Michigan Regiment of Engineers and Mechanics. It is signed by Williamson and a captain named O. The paper measures 10.75 by 8.5 inches and is folded in three. On the back, it says "Oath of Identity" but is not filled out.

30, 1867 DEATH A type-written letter was made by the Charles T. 42, Department of Michigan G.

They list his name as Solomon Foster. He may have changed his name.

It is signed by three members of the post's committee. It describes where he was born, how he died, where he lived etc. Kind of cool to see a mini biography of a soldier's life.

It is dated 1901 and measures 10 by 8 inches and is folded in three.
