RARE CIVIL WAR ERA NAMED SOLDIER'S BACK PACK-NAME STENCILED-WITH HISTORY-BEAUTIFUL TARRED LINEN FIELD BACK PACK WITH ALL ITS BRASS FITTINGS AND IRON ROLL BUCKLES- SUPPLE LEATHER- THE LINEN PACK IS IN GOOD CONDITION- SOME TEARS ON THE SIDES- HAS A PADDED BLANKET STILL IN THE PACK- ON THE INSIDE COVER IS STENCEL J P FULLER-RECORDS SHOW JOHN P FULLER -AGE 35 ENLISTED ON JAN 25TH 1864 AT PITTSFORD MAINE WITH THE 4TH MAINE COMPANY F- JOHN WAS A NEW RECUIT TO THIS VETERAN UNIT THAT HAD SEEN ACTION IN THE ARMY OF THE POTOMAC FROM EARLY IN THE WAR TO GETTYSBURG- THEY WERE NOW MOVING SOUTH FOR THE NEW OVERLAND CAMPAIGN GENERAL GRANT WAS LAUNCHING AGAINST THE ARMY OF NORTHERN VIRGINIA- ON MAY THE 5TH THE ADVANCING UNION ARMY WAS ENGAGED BY THE CONFEDERATES IN AN AREA OF DENSE THICKETS KNOW SIMPLY AS THE WILDERNESS- TWO DAYS OF BLOODY FIGHTING WOULD END IN STALEMATE- JOHN WAS AN EARLY CASUALTIY-BEING BADLY WOUNDED IN THE LEFT LEG- WHICH WAS AMPUTATED- JOHN DIED OF THIS WOUNDS ON JUNE 20TH AT A FREDERICKSBURG HOSPITAL-5 MONTHS INTO HIS ENLISTMENT- THIS IS HIS BACK PACK- RARE CIVIL WAR COLLECTIBLE TO FIND IN THIS GREAT CONDITION AND WITH HISTORY.
