North Carolina, including an account of the authors wounding at Spotsylvania Courthouse in May of 1864, the fates of comrades in the battle, the amputation of his leg in a Union field hospital, a short period as a prisoner in the Marshall House in Alexandria, and the months he spent in prison at Elmira, NY, which is full of fresh detail and personal anecdote.
