VERY RARE Original Civil War Hand Made Homespun Wool Soldier's Sheeting Blanket. DESCRIPTION: This is extremely rare. Made of thin homespun-type wool, it was used as a sheet to provide additional warmth under the heavy soldier's wool winter blanket, while being less coarse and more comfortable. It also could be used in warmer weather by itself, when the heavy wool blanket was too much. Kind of a cream color.

Edge seam at each end is hand sewn. No seams on the sides, and side edges are rough, slightly scalloped, and not sewn (as shown).

Has one seam down the middle to attach the 2 sides or "panels", a classic attribute of this style. This central seam is also hand stitched. I believe they were made in 2 sections since they did not have the equipment or technology to make a full width at one time.

Has a nice soft early feel and a nice cream color. All in all a super, very scarce Civil War soldier's equipment/uniform accessory. You will not see many of these any more. I have had this one in my collection for 30 years. Measures approximately 52" wide x 82" long.

Quite a nice, and very scarce item to complete a collection of Civil War soldier's personal equipment and items and related items. Can be great with a knapsack or for display with a variety of collections. This one also has some letters embroidered in it as shown. They appear to be the soldier's initials. THIS IS A VERY RARE ACCESSORY. Not many of these survived and you will not see many offered for sale.
