The silver colored handle is cast metal, formed to show all the military/patriotic Civil War and GAR motifs, e. Large eagle holding crossed cannon, unfurled American flag, the GAR emblem, crossed cannon, crossed sabers, crossed muskets, etc. Also has "GAR" cast into the silver handle. All as shown in the scans. The head sits on a black wooden shaft.
Condition is very nice, with only a tiny crack in the metal by the "G" h. Ardly noticeable and doesn't affect the strength or stability. It shows some honest use, and you can picture how proud the original owner was of it, using it during meetings and GAR functions, and also as a cane during day to day use.
IT ALSO STILL HAS THE ORIGINAL METAL PROTECTIVE TIP, WHICH ARE USUALLY MISSING. It is worn significantly, at an angle, confirming the pride and amount of use that this received!
The owner of this cane was obviously one of the old men shown in GAR related pictures, who in his youth had gone through the horriffic battles of the Civil War. This is one of the final remnants of his life and that great service. A great, scarce accessory addition to your collection of Civil War /GAR soldier's personal items! Very small crack to the left of the "G" as shown.
