Sixthteenth-plate Tintype, Union Soldier, Likely Michigan 10th Infantry
SIXTHTEENTH-PLATE UNION SOLDIER, LIKELY MICHIGAN 10TH INFANTRY. The pressed paper case is in fantastic condition. Image is clear with light contrast. The assumption that this soldier served in Michigan 10th Infantry is because it comes from a collection of civil war photos where most were known to be from the 10th Infantry. I found a scrap of paper where it was written in a shaky hand that the small tintype was "me", which is only significant as this estate included the personal possessions from Civil War of a soldier named Delos Jewell, and I suspect this is a photo of him. He was with the 10th Michigan Infantry for most of the war.
