Stunning Civil War Soldier with Rifle framed tintype or ambrotype

While helping my dad clear out his house, we found this old Civil War tintype or ambrotype of a seated soldier holding a rifle. The case is in somewhat rough shape, missing the cover, but the rest appears in good shape, with nice bright gold-leaf colored trim and a nice image with stunning eyes. I tried to take photos from various angles, as the glass reflects the camera lens and creates a glare. It looks, to me, as though the image was touched up post-production with some sort of gold paint on the soldier's buttons, etc. This will make a wonderful addition to any historic/Civil War collection.
