SUPERB CONFEDERATE CIVIL WAR SOLDIER RARE HALF PLATE TINTED AMBROTYPE PHOTO

Superb and original half-plate ambrotype of a young Confederate in front of an uncommon backdrop. A great Civil War find! The backdrop, his buttons, and his cheeks are all hand tinted/colored. The design of the buttons are not.

Visible, though one of them (third from the top) looks like the person who colored it went through some. Trouble to make some sort of design, and not just solid color - looks like the bottom half of the button is. Made up of tiny dots. I have not researched Confederate buttons to try to find a match.... This was from a Florida estate.

There are several lines of original pencil writing inside of the back of. One time it was an ID, but I can no longer read it, it's very light and appears mostly. The winner might be able to. Enhance it in Photoshop or read it somehow, but I wouldn't bet.

Ambrotype is in excellent antique condition, as shown. The photo is on clear glass with some black paint.
