Superb Tintype of Stud Civil War Soldier Armed with Musket, Eagle Breast US Buckle
Superb sixth plate tintype of a stud Civil War soldier armed with musket and bayonet housed in the frog. His eagle breast plate and US buckle are crisp and clear, not having been muddied with gold tint. I love the look on his face. Condition : Very light surface wear, otherwise excellent. Housing : Scarce Union Case, Berg 2-51 titled "Roses and Holly" - the engraver's name KEY appears in the lower "U" shaped curved frame, in the midline. Overall condition is very good with light wear and to edges, corners and surface.
Hinges are a touch loose, but the cases closes square and snaps shut. Complete with a nice ruby velvet plush.
