US CIVIL WAR UNION SOLDIER WithFROCK COAT TINTYPE PHOTO HNGD/EMBOSSED/RD VLVT CASE
[Discovered in southern New Hampshire in an early post and beam farmhouse along the New Hampshire/Massachusetts state border, this young Union soldier was most likely from a US Civil War, Union Army, New Hampshire infantry regiment]. Mid-19th century, US Civil War Ame ri can antique tintype photographs of Union & Confederate soldiers. 3" Height x 2 ½ " Width (closed frame) x ¾ Depth. For sale is this estate fresh and new to the marketplace, wonderfully well-preserved original, authentic period, mid-19th century, US Civil War period, black and white, antique tintype photograph of a young, seated Union soldier, from most likely a New Hampshire regiment, since the tintype was found in an early New Hampshire farmhouse on the border of New Hampshire and Massachusetts. It appears to never have been removed from the stamped, embossed leather covered, hinged wooden viewing case, with original front brass case clasp. Jacquard, embossed red velvet provides the left sleeve case insert opposite the glass covered tintype, which is framed with embossed, highly ornate, decorative gold foil with an oval viewing window. The leather case has an original, unbroken case hinge. The tintype features a young man, posing in his Union Army blue wool frock coat, with brass buttons running down its front. His hair is aggressively parted to one side and is flipped over his head with tonic.
His cheeks have hand applied, customary powdered red rouge, to give the black and white image of the young man and proud soldier, more life and life-like, animated qualities. Everything about the tintype photograph and case is original and entirely, completely undisturbed and unbastardized. Not a good Civil War tintype but a particularly great one. With a crystal clear image of what is a young man, not knowing entirely what may lie ahead of him or what the fratricidal war may hold for him.
A wonderful mid-19th century U. Civil War original, period artifact and authentic American historical artifact. They come differently, with different poses, often with rifles, hats and pistols and in the form of daguerrotypes and ambrotypes but not much better than this tintype.
