Victorian civil war soldier 6th plate tintype identified with battle souvenir

Very nice 6th plate tintype of union soldier identified as Jesse Fort of the 34th New York Volunteers. Identified in pencil inside case also found behind the image is a red fabric star.. I thought corps badge but this is not the 34ths symbol. Possibly a piece cut from a flag.

Tintype is in good antique condition with some slight wear. Comes housed in a full split leatherette case.
