Whole plate tintype of an armed Confederate militia soldier from Buncomb County, North Carolina. I bought this image from an old friend named Ronnie Myers who used to operate Magnolia Beauregards on Main Street. It was a wonderful antique shop unlike any in the nation. Myers including this image which has been in my personal collection for many years.
The image shows a proud gentleman who was likely in the local Rebel militia due to his age. He is shouldering a flint lock rifle with powder flask while gripping a sword or dagger? He is also wearing an officer of the day sash across his chest while sporting a uniform that appears to be more inclined to fashion the War of 1812 attire. And indeed it may have been that this old warhorse volunteered in both.
The tintype came out of a Waynesville, North Carolina home. Condition Report: Rub marks; some surface flaking near bottom, a bit darkish; Housed in fine original walnut/oak frame that measures 12 x 14 inches. Old slag wood backing has not been removed for inspection. Whole Plate Tintype Armed Civil War Confederate Soldier Buncomb County, NC.
